The Scene
This sprawling 22-acre resort has gone through many incarnations. The latest leans heavily toward time-shares. Through it all, though, the HBR (as it's known by locals) has maintained a reliable quality.
The Details
The resort is built into a steep hillside and offers dense tropical landscaping, stunning ocean views and eight tennis courts. It has one of the nicest swimming pools on the island, complete with a small sand beach and realistic rock waterfall. The accommodations have tropical furnishings and range from single rooms to three-bedroom suites. Amenities include a restaurant with a million-dollar view of the ocean, the setting sun and Makana, the rugged peak dubbed "Bali Hai" by Hollywood. The resort's casual, open-air Happy Talk Lounge features good live music, fresh pu pus and Friday happy hour.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasTennis doesn't get much better than at HBR with eight courts overlooking the sea and a friendly staff of pros. However, check court availability as HBR caters to locals as well.
