Editorial Review for Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa – by Gayot.com

The Scene
When you walk into this place, your eye is not drawn to the decor, although it is quite attractive. Instead, the lobby was designed to frame the view of the sky and Pacific. Nature is the star here, and guests love the large, sprawling grounds.

The Details
The resort has a pleasant, relaxed Hawaiian atmosphere that manages to feel both luxurious and nostalgic, harking back to the 1920s. Part of the charm lies in its open-air common areas, which are accented with Italian marble, tropical flowers, koa wood and lush landscaping. The guest rooms have good-sized balconies and excellent garden, mountain and ocean views. Amenities include an 18-hole golf course that snakes along the coastline, several restaurants, the luxurious ANARA Spa and a children's camp. Highlights are the fantastic fresh and saltwater swimming pools that wind under arches, over water slides and around private decks.

I did not actually stay at this hotel, though I would like to next time I am in Kauai. But I did join the spa for five days, and I have to say it was just the BEST!! They have nice exercise equipment, and a beautiful outdoor lap pool, which is never crowded, at least it wasn't while I was there. The best thing about the place, though, I think, is the locker room. They have these "garden showers," which have volcanic rock walls, with plants and flowers growing in the rocks! There is no ceiling for these showers, just the sky. Each shower has lovely, sweet smelling "coco-mango" products. Other features include great massages, a small cafe, free fresh fruit and fruit water all around, wet and dry steam rooms, and plenty of jacuzzis. Yes, it is expensive, but SOO worth it!

Pros: Ambience, pool, showers, locker rooms

Cons: it is expensive

Our stay was just under a week and I wish it were longer. The grounds are incredible from the bars, to the restaurants, to the pools and lagoons. The staff were friendly and helpful in planning adventures off the hotel grounds. The beach was great to swim, surfers were there all day. We saw sea turtles every day. We went cliff diving right off to the left of the beach. We played a round of golf at Poipu Bay and other than the wind, enjoyed the day to the fullest. Pretty expensive, but you have to pay for all the amenities. Well worth every dime. Some other notes-- The wife spent a day in the spa and said it was incredible. Try to book that ahead of time to assure a spot. We went to the luau that the hotel hosts, definitely a must in Kauai. Food was great as well as the entertainment. The restaurant by the koi ponds had amazing food as well. I can't remember the name, I think it was Tidepools. You sit among the kio ponds while eating, nice atmosphere. As far as location, you are a fifteen minute drive to anything worth seeing. Boat tours of the Napali Coast was cool. Waterfalls are all over the island. We will definitely go back for an anniversary.

Pros: check the comments, I listed it all

Cons: pricey, but worth it.
