Curious about the pineapple? Visitors heading to or returning from the North Shore can stop at the Dole Plantation for a train ride, garden tour, or a crack at the World's Largest Maze. The narrated Pineapple Express goes through pineapple fields, presenting a unique insight into Hawaiian agriculture. Visitors learn the history of the Dole enterprise, from a small farm to the world's largest producer and marketer of pineapples. The garden tour features a variety of pineapples and a fish pond. The plantation shop features gifts, snacks, and the refreshing frozen DoleWhip treat.

If you ever have walked into a mall shop specializing in useles junk, such as Sharper Image or the Hello Kitty store or Aaahs, this place is just like that. But, instead of vibrating pillows and Picachu pens and motorized fingers, it's all pineapple. Pineapple t-shirts, pineapple pens, pineapple hot sauce, pineapple reading lamps etc etc. I would still recommend going if nothing else to say you've done it as well as to check out the grounds. The maze is interesting (no, i wont go with the "aMAZE-ing" cliche), the fish in the pond are crazy for food and the store is eccentric. I did like the pineapple slushy though. Plus, its a good stop before continuing on to North Shore.

I have visited the Dole Plantation twice while on Oahu, and would recommend it as a fun day-trip for visitors to the area. You can walk around in a pineapple maze, learn how to cut pineapples properly, browse the large gift shop and walk the lush grounds. Don't forget to sample a refreshing Dole Whip, their signature creamy frozen soft-serve. Nothing beats it, on a hot day.

Dole whips are basically pineapple flavored frozen yogurt. They are absolutely a must try in Oahu. They usually have coupons for them in traveler's books. I recommend getting the dole whip in a waffle cone. The gift shop has a variety of selection of Dole products and you can usually find cute souvenirs to take home. There is also a gigantic maze that you can run around in for a price. The plantation also allows you to walk around to see pineapples and various other plants as well as placing painted wooden boards with the faces cut out so you can take funny pictures. Dole plantation is a must see!
