I took friends and family to Nick's on Christmas day. It was a disaster! o The service was *very* slow (even though we selected the special menu of the day) o Some of the food was cold (cold steak is not very enjoyable) o The staff had too many tables to service for the employee load I suspect all the new development on Lewers Street is going to be the death of Nick's, especially if they don't get their act together. They used to be "the" place to go in Waikiki. How times change...

The hotel was nice, but I also just came off from staying at the Prince. This is probably ranked as a three star hotel. Its nice in terms its a place to sleep and its centrally located. The rooms aren't the greatest and the beds leave much to be desired, but its still a place to sleep and if you plan to spend every waking moment at the beach this is a good hotel. Kind of small and old.

Located near the entrance to Waikiki, the Waikiki Gateway is another older property that has seen better days. Still, it is clean and well maintained and in a good location. The staff here are friendly and helpful. If you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel room, and you're on a budget, this can be a resonable option for you.
