Apathy Realized if they won't bother, no longer will I. A phone call to the number on the still locked door at 11:20 on a tuesday provided no understandable reason the 11:oo a.m. opening was not met. Then, after an eager and loyal patron pounded like a process server on the still secured door at 11:20 without result, he announced that he would go to the back door. As he disappeared, his wife reported that the couple had eaten at Zaffron many times. "He loves it", she said. Then she said ,with enough salt, she didn't mind it too much.

The buffet food looked stewed to a stoney silence and its taste refused to dispute the integrity of that appearance. Each selection was languid on the tongue with little reason to revisit the buffet.

The server brought water, nothing more. Some time later, he brought the two only other diners in the place at lunch time an order of nan. Nan required a special order and was not included in the buffet. That had not been revealed as I was being seated. The waiter had time to offer additions since there clearly was no lunch time rush. The nan might have provided some distraction from the unfortunate buffet offerings.

This is the second attempt I made to find a reason to eat at Zaffron. The dirty, stained and tattered carpet; the walls which needed painting or at least a cleaning; the indifference with opening on time; the lack of enthusiasm to offer nan or other enhancements all verfiy why there would only be three souls courageous, naive, or foolish enough to ever attempt to find a reason to eat there again. Everything about this restaurant whimpers apathy.
