Overpriced for Mediocre Food. This restaurant was touted as one of the better seafood restaurants in the Honolulu area. The service was adequate, but they never came back to refill our water glasses, which we were drinking in abundance due to the overly salty cuisine. The sauce was very thin with their stir fry dishes, the saving grace was the white rice that helped soak up the extra fluid. The atmosphere and decor was pleasant, but we did not go here to sit and observe the surroundings!
Terrible service & undercooked food--a comedy of errors. Terrible service and undercooked food! We were seated by the hostess and did not see a waiter or anyone else for 30 minutes. I had to find a manager to get a waiter to get us drinks. I ordered the special. After another 30 minutes, the waiter returned and said that they were out of the special. I ordered a different entree--a stuffed pork chop. The pork chop was served dangerously undercooked. The waiter removed my plate and did not come back to offer me anything else for 10 minutes. Then they offered to cook another one, but since it had taken over an hour to get our food the first time and everyone else at the table was already done eating, I passed and said that I would just eat side dishes. I then waited another 10 minutes for a plate with mashed potatoes to appear. The manager offered me a free dessert and then served us the wrong dessert. When the check came, we had been charged for the dessert that was supposed to be free. Also, the food is overpriced. We ordered a shrimp appetizer and got 5 mediocre shrimp for $13. Long story short, this was a terrible experience. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Bad.
I just visited Sam Choy's and I have to tell the readers that place is waste of money.
I usually judge the restaurant by (same as most of people)
Taste
Service
Price
They did not offer any of above.
Taste : All the food we ordered was greasy too sweet and cheaply done.
My red wine braised short rib taste like some store bought demi-glace sauce.
Service: We had to lift our empty first course plates in order for the waiter to place our main dishes. What is this!!
Toward the end, as a good local girl, we asked left over to pack. But guess what, my girl friend's mashed potato was packed along with my ribs and the roasted potato. Can you figure the level of service?
And the price: Over price wine and the food.
I am so surprised that the restaurant was full last night.
As a residence of Honolulu, I strongly recommended to the entire tourist, "Go someplace else".
Great food!. Sam Choy's was a good experience while I was in Honolulu. We went for lunch and I had a lunch special which was monchong, lightly crusted with rice and veggies. It was a large portion, the food was very flavorful, and the service was excellent. My cohort had the poke which was lightly seared, rice and potato mac. All in all, it was a great dining experience.
