Great Food, Great Family Restaurant. I have read a previous review by NarcissistQueen and have to disagree with her completely. I have been going to this restaurant 2-3/week for over 15 years (even in their previous location a block away) and have never had any problems with insects or quality of the food. yes, the staff is very "indifferent", but hey, it's a Chinese restaurant. However, they are very clean! I find it hard to believe that someone eats there for their first time and finds an insect in their food, when I have eaten there over 15 years and haven't found a single one. Seems like somebody just wanted to get a freebie. There's a reason why this place is always crowded and people come back for more. I hate to write a review because I'm afraid if too many people knew about this "gem," it would make it harder for me to get a table there.

Anyway, the prices are very reasonable between $6.50-$7.50 for the average dish. They do stuffed tofu w/ fishcake or pork hash very well. Among my favorites are the black bean clams, mochi stuffed duck (order in advance), lemon chicken, and chicken salad. the chicken salad is not your usual heavy dressing. It's tossed in a light white pepper, celery salt dressing. you will not even notice the dressing, but you'll taste the flavorful simplicity. The food is HONG KONG and CANTONESE -style, so don't be expecting Szechuan or Shanghia cuisine. Expect long waits and a crowded dining room if there are banquets and on holidays . . . probably best to take out under those circumstances, but call well in advance.

Bottom line: Consistently GREAT FOOD, CLEAN dining room, great VALUE, average waiter/waitress service. Bring family, but leave the romance to other restaurants.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I decided to treat my Dad, Step-Mom and Step-Brother to a nice Chinese dinner and having seen this restaurant while driving on the freeway every day, my Step-Mom suggested we try it out! We're not a picky family (or at least they aren't) and when we entered, we had normal expectations - big, roomy, semi-crowded. The prices were decent and although the staff wasn't the friendliest, the meal was out on the table within 5 minutes. Half way through eating (a variety of vegetable, noodle, rice, chicken and seafood dishes), my Mom stops chewing, makes a horrible face, and discreetly spits something out into her napkin. She relunctantly whispered "I just ate an insect" and to our horrow, she had half-chewed a large green stink beetle that had been in the choy sum. I called the manager over and when I told her what happened (as my Mom hurries tot he bathroom), she starts making excuses, "That's what happens with vegetables. Cannot help" and refuses to take the blame - for not properly washing the food, etc. What's worse is she then attempts to justify it - "Things are always in vegetables." Ummm - my Mom makes choy sum at least once a week and perhaps because she washes it before cooking, I have never eaten any "thing" in her food before. The manager offers to take the choy sum off of the bill and ONLY if we decide not to go ahead and press any costs on the restaurant, such as medical bills, etc. Absolutely ridiculous. They were rude, unsympathetic and the overall experience left us all with a very bad taste in out mouths.... literally and figuratively. Go to Pandas or even Patti's before you try this hell hole!
