Dream Merchanic in the middle of the pacific!. Mike at Sportbike Hawaii is my hero and my savior! He is totally awesome with a big heart. He has saved my baby v-twin hawk out of trouble many times. I never experience this kind of service in my 11 years dealing with motorcycle mechanic and includes mainland. He goes out of his way to put a big smile on my face. He keeps my baby running strong and charges me such reasonable amount of money. I see him as GOD! bliss his heart..please go see him and you will not regret it.
An asset to the motorcycle community.
I agree with several points people have made online:
- Mike can do basic maintenance and complex diagnosis
- He charges less
- He is very highly experienced
- Honest and clear
- Appreciates your genuine interest in motorcycles
Over the last two years and 25,000 miles Mike has done the following work on my '04 Suzuki:
- Fixed fuel leak from overflowing carburetor
- Three valve clearance adjustments
- Two new chains and sprocket sets
- Two tire installations
- Three flat tire repairs
- Gasket replacements: valve cover, clutch cover, magneto cover
- Brake lever switch replacement
- Brake master cylinder replacement
I consider Mike a personal friend. He lets me watch the work. I have called for advice. He is the first person I would call if I broke down.
Mike is the only mechanic I have ever tipped.

There is no other bike shop like this. Sportbike Hawaii is the best shop on the island. If your tired of the run around an pocket gouging go to mike. He is the most honest an fair shop here, Or any were I've ever been. A expert in japanese sport bikes of all ages. Repairs, Parts, Maintaining, rebuilding, dead or alive. Mikes the man. Locally owned friendly. As a rider my life is my machines hands I wouldn't put my machine in anyone else's hands but mike's. He puts the rider before the bike so your always happy an confident when you leave
SUCCESS!!!!! VALVE CLEARANCE/ADJUSTMENT. Mike your Vimeo video on Kaw 636 head gasket paid big dividends. While I had the cams out, I also changed the spark plugs and replaced the plug hole gaskets. I found that 10 of the 16 valve clearance was to tight. I was able to swap out 4 shims and purchased 6. THANKS MIKE!!!!!!
sportbike hawaii.
he takes time to explain pro and cons of upgrades. he doesnt make you feel dumb. he doesnt try to over sell you on products and services. i took my bike to him for over 15 years. id still be taking it to him if i had a bike.
he charges less then other places.
since hes the only guy there, he sometimes takes longer to work on your bike because he is busy working on other bikes.
Best bet on Oahu for repairs or service of your motorcycle.. Being the owner and only mechanic at the shop keep s Mike very busy, so at times you may have to wait to get service. After 19 years of knowing Mike and bringing my bikes to him I can say with confidance that his work is outstanding. I have and do trust him with my life when it comes to motorcycles both for the street and at the race track (when we had one) Mike freely shares his knowlege with others and often teaches people about doing proper maintenance on their bikes. He "tells it like it is" so if you are looking for a sugar coating don't be taken back by his no BS approach. If you go to Sportbike Hawaii you will get honest advice and fair pricing. You may also find you have made a good friend.
Personal Expert Attention. Sportbike Hawaii is a very unassuming looking shop. Even so, I've been taking my bikes to Mike for 20+ years now. He has always given me an extremely fair deal. He has always been willing to talk to me about anything and everything to do with my bikes. He has always given me the straight story, never any BS. He's not just some paid lackey in the back of the shop, he's the owner and the mechanic. He rides and loves motorcycles. I trust him completely to service a rare Bimota even though there is a Ducati dealer in town. Since motorcycle service is so crucial to safe riding, I guess you could say that for 20 years I have trusted this guy with my life.
One-man shop with years of experience. I've been taking my bikes to Sportbike Hawaii since I started riding 5 years ago. I called to ask if he would service a 14 year old FZR600 that I was thinking of buying. He spent a good 5 minutes on the phone telling me what to look for when I go to check out the bike. Keep in mind I hadn't even met this guy yet and he was giving me free advice. After I bought the bike I took it there for service and he did the works to it. Carb cleaning, replaced fork seals, oil change, adjusted the chain all for almost half of what I was quoted everywhere else. His hourly rate is much less than the dealerships, but expect to wait a little longer for your bike because he is the only one working there.
What a crappy place. If you love your bike like I do, you should look for a different mechanic. Had my bike in the shop for a week just to get a basic carb cleaning. I was told 3 days. When I called on day 3 if it was finished, the owner told me, and I quote, "I'm in the middle of working on it now and as long as I don't get anymore interruptions I'll finish it when it's done and call you." and he hung up on me. Day 5 and still no calls. Finally on day 7 I get a call saying it's been done for 2 days and he's going to charge me for storage! I will never return to this bitter old man who doesn't appreciate where his money is coming from.
