Editorial Review for Poipu Beach – by Suz Andreasen
The Scene
This mile-long beach lining the small, serene village of Poipu consists of four small coves separated by black lava rock. A host of hotels and restaurants dot the beach, but the luxurious sands still feel fairly secluded. Pleasant picnic areas and almost always sunny weather draw both easygoing locals and tourists. Stunning views peak at sunset, when purple and orange hues sweep over the Pacific.
The Experience
Known throughout Kauai as one of the most diverse beaches, Poipu offers a little bit of everything--snorkeling, boogie boarding, beach chairs, public facilities and plenty of space for beachcombing. The long lava-rock tombolo that stretches out to the ocean offers prime picks for shell hunters, and you may even spot rare Hawaiian monk seals soaking up the sun. The right side of the peninsula is a prime spot for snorkeling. Be sure to pick up a disposable underwater camera to capture the diverse marine life.
