Waikiki beach and everything -GREAT! We get up to our room... no DVD player, no Microwave??? The rooms looks like it could use a make-over. It would not have been a Big deal, but it rained most of the three days we were there. The room did have the ocean view as we wanted and overlooked a gorgeous lush park and was in walking distance of shopping and restaurants. We had a great time at the pool. We ENJOY & LOVED the Marine Corps band playing Christmas music and the live entertainment (free). The food was reasonably priced in the Hale Koa restaurants and was good. If it's sunny and you order a margarita you won't notice a thing.
great service and welcoming staff

We love the Hale Koa--- its not "frilly" or "ritzy" - its just right. You can be yourself and enjoy the hotel. The gym is simple and keeps the excercise routine going. The food is good with quick friendy service. We brought our kids and found that the hotel is kid-friendly, which is awesome. The hotel grounds are upkept and the pool is exceptionally clean. The kids need to break every hour for about 10-15 minutes... while they rest - the adults can reamin swimming. Its a great place to stay while your in Hawaii.......
- Pros: good price, clean facility, friendly staff
- Cons: no late room service
Military Id Holders
by chellehi2007 at Citysearch
This hotel rocks for military id holders. The price is right and the amenities are more than one should expect. Cheapest laua on island! and the food rocks / the show is awesome. The service was just okay. We did find one bell hop that worked hard and got tipped accordingly. I think the people must just be underpaid or something. Maybe they see too many older visitors that don't tip well??? The views from most of the rooms leave something to be desired, however, you aren't in your room a whole lot anyway. A must for military planning to visit the island.
- Pros: great location, great pools, great parking
- Cons: service not so friendly
R&R Was Never Like This!

The Hale Koa Hotel is owned by the Department of the Army and is a part of the Armed Forces Recreation service. Only military members and their affiliates may stay here. Hale Koa offers rooms priced very reasonably considering it's located next to the Hilton Village resort and is on a beach in Waikiki. There are several restaurants to visit so that one doesn't even need to leave the hotel! Nice rooms, great food, reasonable prices; we liked it so much, we extended our stay!
- Pros: great location, excellent restaurants, reasonable rates
- Cons: for military & guests
