Definitely in my top 5

by rmh66 at Citysearch

Wow, I was very impressed with this hotel. My room was big and nice with more amenities than I really could use. The service was fantastic, and the restaurants were great. The view from my room wasn't perfect (I saw quite a bit of roof for having a prime oceanview room), but I was paying a discount rate. By discount, we are talking $380, but actually if you have the money, this place is worth it. Oh, and it's near Waikiki, but not at Waikiki, so you get some peace and quiet.

Best massage ever!

by Vickyyy at Citysearch

I came here for an impromptu honeymoon, even though I live here, and the spa treatment was AMAZING!!! Probably the best massage I've ever had. If you go, ask for the blonde German lady, she's very sweet and has magical hands. Can't wait to come back!

Dreamy

Just the right distance from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, located in the secluded Kahala neighborhood. Taking naps in the king-size canopy bed with the tradewinds blowing into the room was great. Large rooms with parque wood floors and large bathrooms. Kids will love the dolphins in the lagoon. The restaurants onsite are great. We had dinner on the outside terrace overlooking the moonlit ocean while live hawaiian music played. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Glamour and Asian influences in the shadow of Diamond Head.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
This hotel stands apart from the pack of finer hotels on Oahu for a number of reasons, beginning with its location. It juts up from the beach of Kahala, a posh suburban community on the far side of Diamond Head from Waikiki, a good mile or more from the next-nearest high-rise. This puts it a short hop away from the attractions of Waikiki, but in another world in terms of getting away from it all.

The Details
This ten-story structure is an impressive sample of mid-1960s modernist architecture. It's all straight lines and naked structuralism. When it was the Kahala Hilton, it had built a reputation for excellence that attracted kings, presidents, actors and authors. While many people remember it by its old name, it's safe to say that its mid-'90s buyers, the Mandarin Oriental group, have taken it to a new level. Their thorough renovation threw out everything that didn't work--the dated '70s room decor and dining experiences included--and installed everything that does. This includes star restaurant Hoku's, offering Hawaii Regional cuisine beside the beach. The hotel still has its private lagoon with a small collection of dolphins. Recent sightings of Cameron Diaz surely sustain its reputation as the most glamorous Oahu hotel.
