I love practicing Dahn Yoga! However, it wasn't always so. When I was first introduced to this practice, I was a Happy Couch Potato. Previous attempts to exercise or to improve my health met with failure. I only lasted 2 sessions with Curves. I lasted less than a month with 24-Hour Fitness. I tried to do walking on my own and just couldn't do it. THEN I FOUND DAHN, through my attendance at the Great Aloha Run Expo this past February. My first lesson was at the Honolulu Center. It was an hour basic yoga class. There must have been about 20 people in the class on that day, at different levels of practice. I thought to myself, "Aaawwww, I'm NOT going to be able to keep up with ANYONE", especially since I was a newbie. The more I worried about how I looked to everyone, the more tense I became. Anita Ahn, Master and Area Manager of the Dahn Hawaii Centers made me feel really good by relaxing me (alleviating my nervousness) and allowing me to go at my own pace. She taught me that I didn't have to worry about how other people were doing, that I should just focus and be patient with myself. I will be fine. From then, I was hooked! Since I joined Dahn, my health has been improving. My hypertension (BP) stabilized from 175/101 to 115/70. I stopped smoking cigarettes about a week after I started practicing. Eight months strong and NO CRAVINGS! With the approval of my physician, I stopped taking my asthma meds within a month of joining Dahn and only have the inhalers available "just in case". I'm still overweight, but my body is experiencing more flexibility. My confidence and self-esteem increased, which has really made a difference in my personal and professional relationships. All this, from a simple yoga class? Not so, but the yoga class was the beginning of my journey to my physical, emotional and spiritual growth. Just take that first step and contact the center to see what's available for YOU. You will not regret it.
Pros: You can do the exercise moves at your own pace. If you're not able to do something, you can MODIFY (BIG PLUS FOR ME!!!)
